  • *NEW* Smooth Infusion Texture Smoother

posted on January 04, 2012 by Salena Klass

Smooth kinks, curls, and frizz naturally with Smooth Infusion Texture Smoother--Aveda's revolutionary, naturally derived approach to demi-permanent texture.

    Demi-permanent results

You will experience full-blown smoothness without the commitment of a permanent retexturizing treatment. The hair will gradually revert back to its original texture within two months.

    Gentle, Naturally Derived Formula

Our innovative smoothing formula is up to 83% naturally derived and less damaging than traditional keratin treatments or straighteners, leaving the hair in improved condition. Traditional retexturizing chemicals, inluding formaldehyde, ammonium thioglycolate and sodium hydroxide, are replaced with naturally derived ingredients that deliver equally smooth results.

The secret behind the smoothing power is a patent-pending formula with Tourmaline, which smooths hair along with Corn-derived Humectant and naturally derived enzymes.

    Fast Processing

Once Smooth Infusion Texture Smoother is applied to the hair, it creates smooth results in just 30 minutes at room temperature. The whole process from start to finish is about 2 hours.

    Beautifully Tamed Texture

After the treatment, the hair is smooth, frizz-free and infused with shine, natural body and movement. Smooth Infusion Texture Smoother continues to smooth, control frizz and reduce volume for up to two months--even in high humidity.

  • We are "Feather Free"

posted on October 14, 2011 by Salena Klass

At Chi Wah Organica, we are a feather free salon. We dont believe it is humane to hurt animals and we are proud to not carry on this new trend.

We received a letter from Dominique Conseil, Avedas President, and we thought we would share a part of  it with our guests.

"In a recent survey, a majority of Aveda guests and professionals expressed that Aveda's environmental misson is personally meaningful to them. We attribute this to our remarkable network of salon/spas across the country who have partnered with us for more than 33 years to build sustainable, responsible businesses and give back to local communities. Because of this passionate alignment with our Mission, guests and professionals hold the brand to higher standards. To nurture the trusted relationship Aveda has built with our key stakeholders we constantly strive to ensure our practices fulfill our Mission.

Recently, we became aware that bird feathers and feather extension services are offered in our network salons, and we feel strongly that these products and services do not align with the Aveda Mission. As you may be aware, many feather extensions come from de-feathered and slaughtered roosters who are bred and genetically altered to produce long, luxurious feathers. Some may even be plucked from live animals, causing incredible pain. Our stance on animal welfare is one of Aveda's founding principles. We do not conduct animal testing, and do not ask others to do so on our behalf, except when required by law. While we are continually developing new products, our product safty testing relies on the use of volunteer humans, in-vitro testing and numerous scientific databases. Aveda's brand culture is animial friendly --from our corporate office and manufacturing facility, which is a Certified National Wildlife Habitiat, to the fact that a majority of Aveda consumers appreciate that Aveda conducts business in an animal friendly manner...

We consistently strive to provide you with Mission-aligned products and services that deliver the result and performance you and your guests' desire. At times this may lead all of us to make difficult decisions, such as staying out of certain service or product offerings that compromise the brand's values"...

Yours in Service to the Earth,

    Dominique Conseil.

  • Missing my Mama Hen.

posted on June 29, 2011 by Salena Klass

Jennifer came to work for our salon back in 2007. We were desperately looking for someone to be our new manager but after a few faulty hires, I was hesitant. Chi Wah had taken Jen in the back of the salon to interview her and I said, “Mom don’t hire her on the spot! Sleep on it!”  Well of course they hit it off right away and Jen was hired in an instant. I’m glad she was, because she became one of the most influential people in my life.

Jen was amazing at her job. She kept us working hard and kept us inspired. She became a friend, a confidant, someone who I looked up to both in and out of the salon. She pushed us all to be better because she knew the sky had no limits.

In 2008, Jen was diagnosed with breast and colon cancer. After undergoing a long haul of chemotherapy and radiation, Jen came back to work. Her strength empowered us all to be better. She was back full force and together, with Erica, the three of us began planning our move down to Clover Commons.

Jennifer’s cancer was in remission until August of 2010. When she got sick the second time I don’t think any of us really realized the severity of it all. Jen took time off again from work and we just kept thinking, okay a few more weeks and she will be back. Time was going by and the salon became anxious to hear from her. Everyone stepped up and tried to hold the fort down while she was away. Many of our clients had gone through the same situation and everyone was noticing her second absence.  This time the treatments were not working and a few weeks after Thanksgiving, Jen informed Chi Wah that she was going to stop her treatments. This was heartbreaking and scary.

Andrea, Erica, Teigan, Nicole and I went to visit Jen one snowy evening in the beginning of December. She sat by her beautiful mini Christmas tree and the room was dimly lit by candles. We cried, laughed, hugged, and cried some more. Jen told us all to follow our hearts and never lose sight of who we are. I told her I love her and hugged her goodbye.

About two weeks later we were all in New York City to attend a taping of Vivienne Mackinder’s Hair Designer TV. We got news that morning that Jen had passed. It was a surreal experience. As we took a break from the taping, we all walked down to Rockefeller Center to look at the big Christmas tree. We stood there and cried and we were all thankful that we could be together on this crazy day.

Jen was our mother hen. She taught us to let the little things go, to follow our hearts, and to always appreciate what we have and those we love. When I don’t put in my 100%, I know Jen is up above shaking her finger at me. She keeps us all going even if she can not be with us in the salon.

I thought it was important to share my Jen with all of you so you know how real it is when I call us a family, or a team. We all come to work everyday and spend countless hours together. We include our clients in our family and I hope that you know that the relationships we have with you are special to us as well. I am blessed and so happy to work with my best friends, my mother, and to get to know the amazing people that sit in my chair.

Thank you Jen for some amazing years and teaching me all that you have.
